ABOUT THE WINDSOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The Windsor Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center is one of the largest business organizations in the county with 300 members. The Windsor Chamber is committed to improving the economic prosperity of our community because a healthy business climate and economic vitality are integral to a healthy community overall. We do this by:
▪ Providing professional connections and networking opportunities to build and grow businesses through joint mixers, monthly luncheons, and our Sonoma County Women Professionals group.
▪ Championing the interests of business, making us a vital resource and essential to the community we serve.
▪ Advancing the economy of our area through advertising initiatives and the operation of the Windsor Visitors Center.
▪ Connecting businesses with the public through our major fundraising events and programs.
▪ Supporting entrepreneurship by partnering with the workforce of tomorrow through local youth programs.
▪ Organizing educational opportunities and connecting businesses to the resources in our area.
▪ Producing Leadership Windsor, our local leadership program that seeks to empower individuals to become effective stewards of our community by building relationships and providing solid knowledge of local services, issues and needs.
 
POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director must be a dynamic and strategic leader who can maintain and develop the relevance and impact of the Chamber and Visitors Center. They are responsible for the overall leadership and management of the organization and will be accountable for its effective and efficient operations. The Executive Director will have a strong external focus, serving as a key spokesperson and advocate for the business community and will be able to successfully operate at high levels of influence with leaders in our community.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Direction: Collaborates with the Board of Directors to refine and implement strategic objectives, regularly reporting on progress. Engages the Board in Chamber activities and organizes the annual retreat.
Business & Operations Plans: Develops and executes business, financial, marketing, and operational plans to achieve strategic goals. Oversees adjustments as needed to meet progress targets.
Financial Management: Works with the Finance Committee to develop an aligned budget. Ensures financial soundness, stability, and transparency.
Membership Relations & Development: Leads efforts to engage current and prospective members, enhancing membership value and retention.
Advocacy & Community Leadership: Works with the Board and staff to manage relationships with elected officials and public agencies, advocating for the Chamber and business community. Serves as a visionary leader and spokesperson to promote the Chamber’s contributions to the community and economic success.
Event & Program Management: Manages programs and events including luncheons, mixers, and fundraisers, collaborating with staff and committees for execution.
Talent Management: Oversees HR functions, including hiring, training, and managing staff, while maintaining a culture of respect, diversity, and collaboration.
 
CORE COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have a unique combination of personal and professional qualities, including:
▪ 5+ years executive level leadership experience, with preference for someone who understands the dynamics of a chamber of commerce, nonprofit, or similar membership organization that advocates for members and engages in marketing and economic development.
▪ Proven business acumen and ability to successfully manage budgets, set goals and objectives, and plan and track multiple, simultaneous projects.
▪ Willingness to pursue new ideas and challenge traditional thinking.
▪ Experience working for and with a Board of Directors.
▪ A diplomat with strong relationship-building skills and political savvy, building alliances with business leaders, entrepreneurs, elected officials, and the media.
▪ Proven experience recruiting, developing, motivating, and retaining a strong, diverse staff in a
team-oriented, results-focused environment.
▪ Proficiency with Microsoft 365 office suite and Google Workspace. Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Canva, CRMs, and other digital business tools a plus.
▪ Education in marketing, business, communications, or public administration is a plus. Professional certifications and continuing education, particularly Chamber-specific, are also desirable.
 
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Executive Director shall generally be available during regular operating hours of the Windsor Chamber (8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday). The Executive Director may have flexibility with their schedule provided that they complete all duties, responsibilities, and management functions of the job description in a timely manner. The work environment is dictated by the activities of the Chamber which include times outside of regular operating hours including mornings, evenings, weekend days, and overnight travel. The Executive Director must possess a valid driver's license.
 
The physical demands of this position require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Near vision is required to write and read printed materials and computer screens. Requires hearing and speaking to exchange information on the telephone or in person. The employee is regularly required to reach with their hands and arms and lift items weighing up to 25 lbs. Requires sufficient arm, hand, and finger dexterity to operate a keyboard and other office equipment. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers may also be required. Additionally, the employee must communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. Finally, the employee must have openness and adaptability under regular to moderate stress levels.
